Liverpool, England

(I forgot to take my DSLR camera on this trip, so the photos are a mix of my compact digital - which was almost completely flat - and Nick's iPhone. Apologies to Norma and Frank who don't feature at all - but we know you were there!)

We wanted to take a short trip when Frank and Norma were with us and since we had never been and Milo is currently Beatles-obsessed, we thought we would spend a few days in Liverpool. We took the train up (about 2 hours) and stayed in a serviced apartment. It was part of the 'Liverpool One' precinct which is their harbour redevelopment (kind of a cross between QV and Docklands in Melbourne). It's full of shops and restaurants and close to all the key attractions so it was perfect for us. Nick and Milo doing some colouring on the way up -

Milo on Abbey Road at The Beatles Story (wearing his cool Yellow Submarine tee) -

With The Beatles of Yellow Submarine -

Watching Ringo in the recording studio -

In the kids area, wearing a mop-top wig -

We also went to the Fab 4-D experience which was ok, but not exactly what we were hoping for (we just wanted Beatles, but this was a vaguely related story referencing the Beatles). Nick and Milo wearing the 3D glasses -

One day we did a private tour around the key Beatles sites in Liverpool (which worked out cheaper than 4 adult tickets on the normal bus tour). At the house Ringo grew up in and Penny Lane -

Something we loved at Liverpool One were the pianos all around the public spaces. Anyone could play them and we were amazed at the random selection of people who could bang out some beautiful classical piece or a great pop song (we saw a brilliant version of 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol).

Here's Milo having a go -

Finally, Milo playing drums with his (mostly) favourite (it changes from time to time) Beatle, Ringo -
