Amsterdam, The Netherlands (3)

After considering a few different options we finally decided on Amsterdam for Easter. Not only is it close (and always lovely), it seems to be less affected by very high pricing around bank holidays, thus we were able to get a pretty good deal on flights.

We arrived late afternoon on Good Friday and took a cab from the airport to our accommodation - because there were three of us (with Andy) we decided an apartment might be a good (and slightly different) option. The wonders of the internet found us this place at Leidse Corner which had one bedroom and a fold-out sofa, so perfect for our needs. The apartment was in a great location on the first floor above an Italian restaurant -

After we dropped off our bags, we headed out to get some food at a different Italian restaurant close by. Of course, later on we found out one of the downsides of the great location - lots of noisy late night activity. Earplugs soon fixed that.

The next morning Andy cooked breakfast in our kitchen (another great benefit of an apartment) and we went for a walk around. The flower market -

We walked over to Waterlooplein market but the rain was fairly annoying, so it wasn't the best day to wander around a market. In the afternoon Andy and I went to the Van Gogh Museum - I had been before but it's a great place so I was very keen to go again. After spending a few hours there (some of it in a long queue) we headed back to the apartment. The weather had turned very cold by this point and some light snow began to fall - always exciting! We took it fairly easy in the afternoon and went out for Indian for dinner.

The next morning, Andy cooked breakfast again and we headed out for more of a look around Amsterdam. We went via the market in Spui Square where it started snowing quite a bit. After that we decided to go to the Anne Frank house and on the way the snow really picked up until it was quite heavy. One of the canals -

Another canal -

A very cold March day in Amsterdam -

Still beautiful even in bad weather -

In the afternoon, I looked at some galleries and Nick checked out some more record stores. For dinner, we decided to have something local and tried a restaurant near us which had been recommended, but we couldn't get a table so walked across the road to another one which proved to be great. Nick and Andy upstairs in the very narrow restaurant -

The following morning we had breakfast, packed up our stuff and headed to the airport to catch our plane back to London.
