Officially Milo has no citizenship as he wasn't born in Australia and neither of us have permanent residency in the UK. For months Nick has been planning the things we needed to do as soon as he was born to ensure that not only he gets Australian citizenship (surely just submitting a photo of him in the iconic Aussie Bonds Wondersuit - courtesy Janet, Vince & Poppy - should be enough?), but also to ensure he has a passport and visa for the UK (as if he will travel internationally by himself!) First stop was getting his birth certificate which we did when he was 2 days old - we were lucky enough to score a cancelled appointment at the Camden Registry Office so took Milo on his first trip out in the pram to collect it. Later that day we got his passport photos taken (for a passport he will have for 5 years!) and the next day we went to Nick's work so the Skype lawyer could verify the photographs and certify a copy of the birth certificate. Those documents are now with the Australian embassy and we expect his Australian citizenship in 10-15 working days. After that we have to submit the passport application and once that is done Nick will have him added as a dependent to his UK visa. We are a bit nervous because we need this all done before we can come back to Australia for Christmas, but everything has gone smoothly so far, so fingers crossed it will all be fine.
