Milo: 3 years, 5 months, 2 weeks

Superman on the boat from Greewich

Sleeping: Usually about 7:45pm to 5:30-6am. Wake up time often depends how much noise Henry makes when he wakes up. As before, Nick and I are now alternating nights with each boy so I'm enjoying doing Milo's bedtime stories again, although we don't always agree on the books (superhero titles featuring heavily at the moment). Most nights he gets into bed and goes to sleep without any issues.

Eating: As before, although has enjoyed the Easter chocolates much more than expected. Breakfast is now usually Cheerios (as that is what his favourite friend, Maggie Mae, eats).

Playing: Fortunately the Ben 10 phase has mostly passed, although the toys still come out from time to time. Now it's mostly all about superheroes. His favourite superhero changes daily, but usually it's usually Batman, Spiderman or Superman with more obscure characters like Aquaman and the Flash making an occasional appearance at the top. He can tell you if a superhero is from Marvel or DC (clearly he's had some schooling there). Otherwise, he loves the Potato Heads at the moment (we have quite a collection) and has just recently taken a renewed interest in our train set since playing with Finn's trains at Easter.

Learning: He can count up to 13 on his own (the numbers have meaning up until about 10) and up to 20 with a little bit of help. He can spell his own name M-I-L-O and recognize the letters, and knows other letters like H (which he surprised me today by knowing little h and big H) and W. He is starting to colour in a more controlled way and use different colours in the appropriate places in colouring books. He is starting to draw more recognizable shapes, especially circles. He knows all the words to the ABC song and loves 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and knows quite a few other nursery rhymes ('Twinkle, Twinkle', 'Roly Poly', 'Open, Shut Them', 'Baa Baa Black Sheep').

Other: He is generally pretty even tempered and I think we get relatively few tantrums except when he is clearly tired and emotional. Most of the time he can be reasoned with - although a reward chart we've used pretty consistently for about 6 months has been pretty helpful too. We award him stickers for good deeds - like sharing with Henry, getting ready to go out when we ask, listening - and after 5 stickers he gets a toy (usually a mini-figure and yes, he gets way too many toys). Listening is one of our biggest issues as he can just tune us out completely, even for simple questions like what he wants to drink. It can be extreeeemly frustrating but it's not all the time so not too hard to deal with. He has some silly moments like randomly inserting 'naughty' words into songs (like poo or wee wee) or just making up nonsense words to try and get a laugh.

We are actively trying to give him more one-on-one time with us (hence my Saturdays and now Nick is spending Wednesdays just with Milo) and I think he really enjoys that as he can have small moments of jealousy with Henry where he's clearly doing something to get our attention. On the flipside, he and Nick were talking the other day about when he gets big and Nick mentioned how he would have his own house. He didn't like this idea at all and insisted he would live with us and Henry 'forever and ever and ever'. The conversation moved on, but later he reminded Nick that he was going to live with us for always.

Fun with henry

Favorite thing: If he suggests doing something, he says 'That's a good idea, yes?' Sometimes if you suggest something that he would like to do he says 'I was just thinking about that!' Sometimes he will ask you a question like 'Do you like <insert random character name here>' and if you waver or hesitate slightly he says 'Yes or no?? Yes or no, Mummy?'
